Classifying material as either solids, liquids, or gasses is not always simple. In this module’s essay, you will be exploring this concept and the limitations of categorizing various materials.

Case Assignment

In a 1½- to 2-page essay, address each of the following topics:

· Classification helps us categorize different substances based on a set of characteristics. Define the most common characteristics of a solid and a liquid along with examples that fall under each category.

· What are the limitations to categorizing substances in only 3 categories? How is it useful?

· Provide at least two example substances found outside these 3 categories and explain why they are difficult to place in either the liquid, solid, or gas category.

Assignment Expectations

Organize this essay assignment using subtitles that summarize each topic.

Be sure to use APA formatting throughout your essay with 1-inch margins, 12-point type, and double spacing throughout. Include a title page, introduction, discussion of topics with subtitles, and concluding paragraph. Remember to include in-text citations within the body of the essay referencing your resources (e.g., Murray, 2014). Also, be sure to include a reference section at the end of your assignment listing all required readings and any resources you used to complete your essay (your essay should have a minimum of three). Direct quotes should be limited and must be designated by quotation marks. Paraphrased ideas must give credit to the original author, for example: (Murray, 2014).
